چکیده
This work describes the high-velocity impact behavior of doubly curved sandwich panels. The panels are manufactured using carbon/fiber epoxy composite face sheets, polyurethane foam core and 3D-printed PLA plastic cellular auxetic (re-entrant) honeycombs. High-velocity tests carried out by a single-stage air gas gun test machine. A spherical steel projectile with radius 5 mm is impacted to center specimens speed 100 m/s. experimental data used validate explicit finite element models structures. An analytical model also developed for ballistic limit flat panels, results compared those obtained from numerical ones. Parametric analyses high-speed then considering various radii curvature show that energy absorption increased as decreased both re-entrant core. In addition, configuration provides key role in resistance Re-entrant an increase specific (SEA) types.

Ballistic Resistance of Honeycomb Sandwich Panels under In-Plane High-Velocity Impact
The dynamic responses of honeycomb sandwich panels (HSPs) subjected to in-plane projectile impact were studied by means of explicit nonlinear finite element simulations using LS-DYNA. The HSPs consisted of two identical aluminum alloy face-sheets and an aluminum honeycomb core featuring three types of unit cell configurations (regular, rectangular-shaped, and reentrant hexagons). The ballistic ...
متن کاملLow Velocity Impact of Flat and Doubly Curved Polycarbonate Panels
Three-dimensional finite transient deformations of polycarbonate (PC) panels impacted at low velocity by a hemispherical-nosed rigid cylinder have been studied by using the commercial finite element software LS-DYNA with a thermo–elasto–viscoplastic material model for the PC incorporated in it as a user defined subroutine. The implementation of the subroutine has been verified by comparing anal...
متن کاملExperimental Study on the Low-velocity Impact Behavior of Foam-core Sandwich Panels
This paper presents the results of an experimental study on the low-velocity impact behavior of foam-core sandwich panels. Panels with PUR foam core and plain weave carbon fabric laminated face-sheets were subjected to low-velocity impact with hemispherical steel impactors of di erent diameters at various energy levels. Digital image correlation (DIC) technique (ARAMIS software) was used to mea...
متن کاملLocal Buckling of Web-Core and Foam-Core Sandwich Panels
Sandwich construction is widely accepted as a method of construction especially in the aircraft industry. It is a type of stressed skin construction formed by bonding two thin faces to a thick core, the faces resist all of the applied edge loads and provide all or nearly all of the required rigidities, the core spaces the faces to increase cross section moment of inertia about common neutral ax...
متن کاملEffect of Core Crush on Honeycomb Sandwich Panels
Nomex honeycomb is used as the predominate core material in aerospace standard sandwich structure. To provide aerospace standard composite face sheets it is necessary to cure the sandwich structure in an autoclave at elevated pressure. The honeycomb material is capable of withstanding the forces experienced through its thickness, but the lateral forces applied by the elevated pressure cause a c...
